Renegade License Plate

Pennsylvania governor Bob Casey gave the state its famous You’ve Got a Friend in Pennsylvania license plate which was intended to be a marketing and promotion tool for state tourism.

Not everyone was happy with the license plate becoming the medium and the message and in 1988 the Friend plate disappeared.

Thanks to a renegade online seller, the plate will reappear, least for a few afternoons, at Volvo gatherings and shows as part of the look and feel of a nineteen-nineties-era Volvo 240.

Once the event is over, back comes the new license plate with its tourism web address emblazoned as medium and message.
